Admissions Procedure

If you feel that Amesbury could be the right school for your son or daughter please do call us for a prospectus or speak directly to Eleanor Chamberlain (The Admissions Secretary) on 01428 604322 or contact us by email at enquiries@amesburyschool.co.uk in order to arrange to see the school.

1. Background

Amesbury is a school of 325 pupils (limited in size by Waverley Borough Council). Main points of entry are Pre-Nursery (2+), Reception (4+) and Year 3 (aged 7+). Additional places are offered when vacancies arise. The school is normally oversubscribed.

Our admissions policy is geared towards the entrance demands of the 20+ senior schools for which we prepare pupils regularly.

2. Order of preference:

Siblings: The brothers and sisters of pupils who joined Amesbury in our pre-preparatory department are offered first priority on places.

The date on which Registration Forms are received at the school.  However in order to maintain the co-educational nature of year groups, separate registration lists are maintained for boys and girls.

Headmaster's List: The sons and daughters of O.A's and scholars are separate from the normal School List.

3. Assessment

In Pre-Nursery and Nursery, there are no entrance tests and children automatically proceed from Nursery to Reception.

There is no entrance test for a child entering the preparatory school from our own pre-preparatory department.

A child entering Reception - Year 8 from another school is assessed during a visit (morning/full day). A number of tools will be used to help us assess whether a child would be likely to thrive at Amesbury, based on their academic potential, and emotional and physical development.

If at any stage it becomes apparent that a child is not coping with the academic curriculum, parents are informed and a meeting is arranged with the Director of Studies and/or class teacher.

4. Application and Assessment Procedure

To arrange to meet the headmaster (and other key members of staff) and to tour the school please call the Admissions' Secretary.

In order to register a pupil on the 'School List', complete the Registration Forms and return them to the Admissions' Secretary.

From Reception class onwards after a visit (and subject to availability) a place may be offered. A letter confirming the offer of a place and a starting date will be sent to parents.

The school deems the place accepted and confirmed on receipt of the completed School Contract (and refundable confirmation of entry deposit). The child's name is then placed on a class list.

The Admissions' Secretary can advise on Admissions and Scholarships.
