Governors
Amesbury School (Amesbury School Trust Limited) is a registered charitable Trust formed in 1970.
The governance of Amesbury (Amesbury School Trust Limited) is in the hands of a governing body consisting of a Chairman and at present eleven fellow governors. There is a broad mix of skills and experience but with a strong emphasis on Business/Finance and Education.
David Wenman* (appointed 2000 and then Chairman of Governors 2007). He became a member of the London Stock Exchange in 1971, moved to Amsterdam with the advent of Derivatives in 1978 and to Chicago where he lived from 1980 to 1986. He continued to be involved in Derivatives until retirement in 1999. A multiple venture capitalist he is now involved in a broad range of businesses from software development to the leisure sector.
Sally Bonneywell, (appointed 2001) has a BSc(Hons) in Psychology and Anthropology and an MBA. She has held a number of senior positions with GlaxoSmithKline, and is at present working in the field of Leadership Development and Talent Management.
Chris Bennie* (appointed 2003 and Chair of the Building Committee) graduated in architecture from Edinburgh University in 1980 and is now a Principal in TP Bennett LLP, one of London’s largest architecture, planning and interior practices. He specialises in the design of commercial, transportation and large scale residential work and has a keen interest in both contemporary design and history of architecture.
Nick Chilton (appointed 2010) was educated at Reeds School, Cobham. Until his enforced retirement from a spinal injury, he was the major shareholder and chairman of an international marketing consultancy, which specialised in the Leisure & Sport Industry. Since his retirement he has dedicated most of his time to the furtherance of Sport & Recreation in the Haslemere area. He Chairs a number of Local Sporting Organisations and is a Non-Executive Director of England Hockey.
The Bursar - Yvonne Drew* (appointed 2009) is a Chartered Accountant and graduate of Loughborough University (1990). She was awarded a Bachelor of Science majoring in accounting and financial management. Between 1990-1994 she worked at Deloitte & Touche and held a variety of positions with Sainsbury's Homebase until 2003. She was the financial controller of PMP Consultancy before joining Amesbury in January 2009.
Tarquin Henderson* (Chair of the Marketing Committee) was educated at Eastbourne College and on leaving school dived headfirst into the world of business. His first experience was at the family owned Henderson Group One, a medical PR company, and he has worked in organisational communications throughout his career. In September 2008 he joined Hill and Knowlton as Head of Corporate Practice UK, prior to which he had been CEO of the Corporate and Brand team at Financial Dynamics.
Jo LeCouilliard* (Chair of the Finance Committee) was educated at Guildford High School and went on to Cambridge University where she was awarded an MA in the Natural Sciences. She qualified as a member of the institute of Chartered Accountants in 1988 and in her early career worked for Coopers and Lybrand, Price Waterhouse and Schroders Ventures. She held a number of senior positions at GlaxoSmithKline between 1995-2005. Until May 2008 she was Chief Operating Officer for BMI, the private hospital division of General Healthcare Group.
Dr Patricia Macnair* (appointed 2006, Governor responsible for Pastoral matters) a graduate MBChB (Medicine) from the University of Bristol (1982), and MA in Medical Ethics & Medical Law from King's College, University of London in (2001). Is currently Trust Practitioner in Care of the Elderly at the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust, and freelance medical journalist working for BBC Radio and BBCi Health.
Simon Miller* (appointed 2006 and Chair of the Education Committee). A graduate from the University of Warwick (1982) in Renaissance History, he is currently Executive Director and Head of Legal at Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd having previously worked at Norton Rose.
James Priory is Headmaster of The Portsmouth Grammar School. He was educated at King Edward's School Birmingham and Taunton School. He gained a 1st in English from Oxford and his first teaching post was at Bradford Grammar School. He was appointed Head of English at PGS in 2000 and as Headmaster in September 2008.
Peter Roberts (appointed 2003 and Amesbury’s Nominated Child Protection Governor). Headmaster of Bradfield College, and before that Master in College at Winchester College (1991- 2003). He graduated from Merton College, Oxford: MA (Modern History) and Institute of Education, London: PGCE.
Andrew Rubio* (appointed 2006) a Chartered Accountant and graduate of the University of New South Wales (1984) with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in accounting, financing and systems. Experience between 1988-2001 at Credit Suisse First Boston, NatWest Markets, Bankers Trust and Solomon Brothers. Now Managing Director of Throgmorton Corporate Administration Services.
Alan Thomas (Appointed 1992/1993, Deputy-Chairman, ex-Chair of the Finance Committee and Financial Director) was educated at Uppingham School. He worked in the City in stock broking before involvement in the oil industry at senior executive level. He was awarded an MBA from Surrey University in 1992. He is an exceptionally keen golfer!
Julian Wilson* (appointed 2004) is a Barrister, 11 King's Bench Walk Chambers, Temple and was previously Solicitor and Partner, Herbert Smith. Took a B.A. (Oxon) Jurisprudence from Pembroke College, Oxford in 1981.
