Music
What opportunities are there to sing at Amesbury?
Every child is encouraged to sing at Amesbury and is given opportunities to perform as a soloist or in an ensemble. Every Tuesday morning, the whole school gathers together to sing in hymn practice in preparation for the week's chapel services.
In years 3-5, pupils can join Junior Choir and take part in a number of performing opportunities throughout the year. Every member of years 6-8 can sing in the Senior Choir and can also audition for the Chapel Choir. The Chapel Choir perform at many of the school's events and in recent years have sung at the United Nations building, New York, St George's Chapel, Windsor and Montserrat in Spain.
How are instrumentalists catered for?
The Music Department offers performing opportunities for instrumentalists of all standards. There is a weekly string group, a Big Band for all wind and brass players and regular informal concerts. In recent years our instrumentalists have toured to Paris and New York and also perform regularly at Care Homes in the local community.
We also tailor our ensembles to specific needs in order to provide our more advanced instrumentalists with appropriate playing experience.
