Amesbury Plate Winners at prestigious Bryanston Netball Tournament

Amesbury’s Under 11 and Under 13 girls’ took part in Bryanston’s annual Prep Schools’ Netball Tournament on Wednesday 20th January.  The competition was extremely strong and the level of play was outstanding.  The Under 13 team fought courageously and came away as the winners of the Plate Competition, whilst the Under 11 team narrowly missed out on the Plate, losing in the Final to Millfield.

The Under 13 team came up against some fierce competition in their qualifying rounds and displayed marvellous team work and determination.  The girls successfully beat schools such as Barrow Hills (6-3), Mount House (14-1) and Durlston Court (11 -0).  The Under 13’s then came up against Port Regis.  The match was incredibly close and the girls fought hard to keep possession of the ball and to move danger away from our circle.  Unfortunately the final score was a narrow 2 – 0 defeat, meaning that Amesbury could not go through to the Cup play-offs.  This left the girls narrowly in second place in their pool, by only one point!

The Semi-Final of the Plate competition saw the girls up against Hanford.  The girls once again proved themselves to be unstoppable; the pace of the game was outstanding and the movement across court left Hanford trailing every pass.  The final score was a very impressive 19 – 6 to Amesbury, giving them a place in the Final of the Plate competition.

The Final was played against Farleigh School.  The girls were a force to be reckoned with and continued to outshine their opposition with slick, skilful passing and fantastic movement off the ball.  The girls amassed quite an audience and wowed the crowds with their beautiful play!  The final score left Amesbury as the well deserved winners with an 8- 0 win over Farleigh and the proud recipients of the Plate.

Well done to the whole squad on their great team work on the day.  Bryanston culminated the First Teams’ extremely successful unbeaten netball season of which the girls should be incredibly proud!
