Amesbury school's record breaking year fro scholarships
It has been a record breaking year fro the boys and girls at Amesbury Preparatory School in Hindhead. Twelve pupils had won scholarships to their senior schools by the end of the Lent Term and a number of boys and girls are planning to sit for awards later in the year.
Director of Studies, Pippa Probert, told the Herald: "They have done very well, but the boys and girls have had to work very hard. The really pleasing thing is that the awards reflect Amesbury's co-educational strengths, and the breadth of our curriculum with academic awards to Wellington College, Portsmouth Grammar, Queens Taunton, Sport and Art awards to Millfield et al. Some pupils have actually been offered awards from first rate schools but declined them for a variety of reasons/"
Headteacher, Nigel Taylor, said: "Life is all about expectations, and I have great admiration for any of our boys or girls who 'throw their hats into the scholarship ring' so o speak. Some have the good fortune to be offered awards, others not, but are offered places to their senior schools as a consequence of their scholarship performance. In every case the challenge of scholarship has mane them more emotionally resilient individuals."
