Amesbury School's youngsters enjoy wonders of science

YOUNGSTERS got to grips with Bunsen burners, tripods and beakers at Amesbury School in a special science evening packed with fun experiments.

Staff members Colin Preece, Tanya Griffiths, Linda Campbell, David Jones and Mike Dullforce joined the science club and children in the laboratory for tests and exercises in the theme of "change".

At the evening the youngsters learned how to pierce a balloon with skewers, create fizzy rockets with alkaline tablets, Blu-tack and capsule lids, and construct paper kettles to boil water.

Other exciting experiments included acid and alkali tests, flaming methane bubbles and cannon fire explosions with alcohol, peroxide and potasium permanganate.

Science club member Rajiv Nair was thrilled by the laboratory display and said: "I love science and the science evening was good fun."
