Anthea Turner is a hit with Amesbury pupils

Television personality Anthea Turner went back to school when she officially opened new classroom facilities for the early years department at Amesbury School in Hindhead.

More than 120 children, parents, govenors and former govenors attened the opening ceremony.

Headteacher Nigel Taylor said the building "enhanced" the facilities already available.

Anthea Turner was invited to cut the ribbon and to declare the building open before touring the department and speaking to the children.

The purpose-built nursery building, which features new and improved classroom facilities  and is joined by a new play area, was blessed by Rev Andrew Gready during the ceremony.

Head of the pre-prep department Lesley Bell said: "Anthea was presented with a bouquet of flowers by James Stead (4), from the reception class. She said how it must be a very happy school school as there were lots of smiley faces.  She also walked around the classes and helped the children with a science experiment."

Mrs Bell added: "The children sang Morningtown Ride to her which she was delighted with as she said her father used to sing that song to her. We were thrilled to have her here, it made it so special for the children who absolutely loved her and she was excellent with them."
