Boys and Girls music video: is this the best school video ever?
The staff and pupils of a small preparatory in Hindhead, Surrey have become overnight sensations after their school video got 40,000 plays on YouTube in under two days over the weekend.
Amesbury School recorded the version of Pixie Lott's Boys and Girls to raise money for CRY, Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity that campaigns to raise awareness of heart abnormalities in young people that can lead to sudden death.
The Video has been praised for its high production values - perhaps not surprising given that it was produced by Hugh Goldsmith, the music mogul behind the likes of Atomic Kitten and Blue, who has a child at the school.
All of the performances are by children at the school and the video was filmed and edited by Ben Goodger, a family friend of the Goldsmiths. Despite looking like it had a production budget of thousands, the film didn't cost a single penny to make.
Goldsmith said, "I thoroughly enjoyed working with Amesbury's staff and children and was taken aback by their levels of talent, enthusiasm and professionalism. Ultimately, it was a privilege to be involved in this project and the reason why we all did it was never far from our minds."
In 2004 Sebastian English, a former pupil at the school, suddenly collapsed and died of an undetected heart condition whilst playing rugby. He was only 15.
Tragically the same thing had happened to Sebastian's father, Howard English, during a training session at his club, Esher at the age of 32. He died in the arms of his fellow player and friend, BBC television presenter, John Inverdale.
