NATIONAL TRUST CELEBRATIONS
National Trust Celebration of the Unification of the Hindhead Landscape.
On Thursday 15th March, pupils from Year 6, along with representatives from the other schools involved in the ART A3 sculpture project, were invited by the National Trust to participate in the unification of the landscape between the Devil’s Punchbowl and Hindhead Common.
The children were asked to scatter heather seeds on the new soil along the route of the old A3 trunk road - which will, in time, restore the landscape to its original heathland beauty and create a conservation legacy for future children of the area.
The event was very well attended by various parties involved in the regeneration of the A3 and allowed the Amesbury children to see and understand, not only the significant difference the new tunnel has created, but also how a changing landscape can shape a future heritage. They were also fortunate enough to meet Dame Fiona Reynolds (The National Trust Director General), as well as the local mayor and the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey.
