U10C Hockey v Highfield
Under 10 ‘C’ v Highfield
Won 0-7
Hockey is thriving at Amesbury if an U10 ‘C’ team can play so fluently and overwhelm a strong Highfield team. The boys dominated the game from start to finish, with tremendous stick work, sensible positional play and some very determined defence. In David Cruichshank, Ben Duchesne and Brian Xuan Amesbury controlled the midfield with skill and precision. In Dougie Benson Amesbury had its very own ‘Martin Peters’, ten years ahead of his time, intelligent off the ball running dragged Highfield players away from valuable defensive space, all of which freed up Piers Fairston and Benedict Hewson to run freely , dominate the match and to provide most of the goals. When Highfield threatened defenders Felix Hall, and Hamish Urquhart provided the steel. The spirit of the team was exemplified by William Shirley who took a direct hit to a leg early in the second half, but played on though in some pain: A spirited result, and well done to Mr Maguire on some very good coaching.
