U11 Tournament at Bryanston
The Amesbury Under 11 team found themselves in a very difficult pool. Despite the prospect of some tough matches and the very wet, cold weather the team made an outstanding start to the qualifying rounds. The team made a strong start with a 4-0 win against Hazlegrove. From here they went on to beat Sandroyd (7-0), St Michaels (3-2) and Chafyn Grove (4-0). As the morning progressed the defence were put under increasing pressure. It all rested on our final match against Dumpton, a team who too had won their previous four matches. The final whistle went with the scores at 3-3. This meant both teams finished in first place with 23 points. After calculating the goal difference the girls were really unlucky to lose out by just 2 goals, meaning Dumpton went through to the Cup competition and we went through to the Plate competition.
The semi final against Norman Court turned out to be a very close match with some outstanding passing and shooting skills displayed by both teams and the final whistle saw a draw at 7-7. In extra time the defence remained tight and every opportunity was taken. The team kept the spectators on their toes right to the end, but Amesbury’s sound play rewarded them with a 11-10 win at the end of extra time.
In the final we met Millfield. The girls started the match well with some fantastic centre court passes and feeds into the circle. The game remained tight with each team scoring goal for goal. The second half saw the Millfield side convert some great goals taking them into the lead. The final score finished 8 – 4 to Millfield. Despite a disappointing end, the girls should be extremely proud of their performances throughout the day.
