The First Netball Team rounded off their extremely successful netball season with an impressive win against Barrow Hills, of 44 goals to 23, leaving them unbeaten all season!

This match was due to be one of Amesbury’s toughest to date, with Barrow Hills having a Surrey County player in Goal Attack.  They had also had a successful season and were hoping for a win against Amesbury.

The girls were visibly nervous on the first whistle and appeared to take a while to warm-up properly and find their stride.  We were often passing too hard and rushing our passes due to our desire to take an early lead.  The first quarter, therefore was rather tight with the score resting at 10 goals to 6 to Amesbury.  The next quarter saw the girls calming down somewhat and settling into their usual rhythm.  Our captain, Jasmine Whitby, continued to lead the girls wonderfully and demonstrated some incredible cross-court play alongside Kate Milliken-Smith.  Lucy Lines was being marked very tightly yet still managed to break free to do some marvellous work in the circle, scoring some breathtaking goals.  Phoebe Landers was outstanding as Goal Shooter; she moved effortlessly in the circle, commanding her space and scoring some beautiful goals.

At half time, however, the score was a very close 18 – 15 to Amesbury.  Barrow Hills were holding their own and fighting back to prevent us from breaking away any further.  The girls knew that they needed to pick up their game to retain their lead.  As if on cue, Amesbury passed with greater speed, switching play and intercepting any breakthroughs with feisty determination.  Bobbie Seavill held the defence together marvellously and read her opponent’s moves wonderfully.  While Isabel Duncan and Matilda Martin marked incredibly well and managed to intercept on numerous occasions.

The girls should be absolutely delighted with the final result; an outstanding 44 goals to 23!  The whole squad has worked so hard this season and are a real force to be reckoned with!
