Year 5 Trip to the Natural History Museum and IMAX Cinema

On Thursday, 11th February year 5 scientists enjoyed an exciting visit to the Natural History Museum and Science Museum in London.

We spent the morning investigating the amazing adaptations animals have made over time to better suit their habitats.  We worked out why eagles have hooked beaks, penguins have webbed feet, and thought about why the Dodo didn’t make it!  We wondered at the huge range of shapes and sizes of dinosaurs and learned why the Tyrannosaur had such vast muscular legs but such puny arms.  We also enjoyed looking around us at the beautiful architecture of the building.

By the afternoon, we had earned a good ‘sit down’ and took our seats and put on our 3D specs to watch open-mouthed as the International Space Station was built before us – the closest to experiencing weightlessness that most of us are going to get.

We all had a great day out, and learned something new, and maybe, just maybe, a seed was sown in that fertile seed bed of year 5 scientists that will grow into an Amesburian astronaut or ground-breaking zoologist or environmentalist one day.
