Year 7's Trip to the Docklands and Houses of Parliament

Amesbury Year 7s took a walk on the ‘development’ side on Friday 27 Feb, as they investigated the work which the LDDC had completed in regenerating the area.  From St. Katharine’s Dock to West India Quay, and from the Docklands Light Railway to Canary wharf, the students were able to critically evaluate the success of the work completed.

Further investigation included a walk through Wapping, studying how a local community had been affected, as well as studying the history of the area at the Museum in Docklands.  The students completed their journey by taking the DLR back to the centre of London, and the Houses of Parliament where the children took a guided tour of the Parliament Estate at Westminster, the Houses of Commons and Lords as well as the Queen’s robing room and Westminster Hall.  Enriching their Year 7 debating topic, the children discovered the ins and outs of parliamentary debating from learning how many MPs sit in parliament through to understanding how a bill is passed.
