Year 8 Snowdonia Field Trip

Year 8 children from Amesbury Preparatory School have completed a week of Geography field studies in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales. Their task was simple: analyse the downstream changes of a glacial river. So wellies donned and flowmeters in hand, the children set to measuring all of the required data. Additionally, they explored inside the Elidir mountain, investigating how the Hydro-Electric power station at Dinorwig provides renewable power to the National Grid. Llechwedd Slate Caverns provided the children with an insight to the harsh realities which miners as young as 10 years old once faced. The ‘high point’ of the trip was the final day ascent of Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales. All children summited in glorious sunshine with slightly sore legs but very proud hearts. Amesbury is a co-educational day school for pupils between the ages of 2-13+ in Haslemere/Hindhead.
