Thursday 8th June U/13 Boys vs Cranleigh

A great game of 4 pairs and all the scores tied at 8 all after all the matches. So a count back of games was needed and Amesbury won 51 games and Cranleigh 44 games.  A close victory but a very satisfying one all the same.
Special note of thanks to Frank and Oliver for not losing a match.

Friday 9th June – Bradfield Tennis Mixed Festival Year 5

Amesbury entered the prestigious Bradfield Tennis Festival with training in the morning and a tournament in the afternoon. After several close matches and indeed some matches where our mixed pairs had to play two boys.
We came 5th out of 6 schools but had a great tea and some nice prizes and saw a school with 40 tennis courts!!

Friday 9th June U/9B and U/8 vs Haslemere Tennis Club

Our U/9 B Boys battled it out vs Haslemere A and we lost by 1 match 8 ½ to 7 ½.  A fantastic result and great experience for our U/9 B Boys. In the Red Level U/8 however we played a strong team and won 8-2. Well played boys!

Tuesday 13th June U/13 AND U/12 vs Edgebourgh

Amesbury fielded a straight mixed team as requested 6 Boys and 6 Girls and despite having to play some all boy pairs we pulled off a win of 5 ½ to 5 in matches. Great fun was had by all and nice to come away with the win!

Wednesday 14th June – Dunhurst Tennis Festival

A mixed team went over to play another 7 schools having never played a tournament before. We took 8 boys and 4 girls.  All played amazingly and got through to the Final.  After a titanic tie breaker we won by 1 point in a sudden death playoff. Our B team actually won and came back with the medals. William, John, Finlay and Florence. Well done All !

Thursday 15th June U/11 Boys vs Aldro away

We played at Aldro for the return fixture and this time saw off the opposition 6 matches to 3. Fielding 3 players from the year below!

Fantastic achievement. Well done all!

Monday 19th June U/8 VS Dunhurst Away

This time it was a straight match vs Dunhurst only. We took 11 boys and 4 girls. The opposition was competitive again and our boys won a close fought battle playing some boys from the year above but despite this we won 13-11.
In the girls we had a massive win 11-1.

Not bad at all, very well played!

It was an amazing day taking a record 30 children up to play at the National Tennis Centre. We bumped into Raonic World No 5 and watched James Ward and Kyle Edmunds train on the grass courts ready for Wimbledon.

The boys and girls got so much out of it and played some very good and close fought matches. Especially Jasmine and Katie who battled out a 10-9 victory in the 3rd set by mistake thanks to their umpire!

One of the other highlights was watching Lucy Shuker train who is the No 1 Ladies British wheelchair champion and Para Olympian. She was very generous with her time with the children and signed lots of tennis balls and we will look forward to watching her play at Wimbledon this year.

We are taking a Wimbledon Trip again this year and all the winners and runners up of the school tennis tournament get first refusal as a well done!

We are very much looking forward to building on this experience and making it even bigger and better next year!
