We am delighted to announce that Amesbury has been selected as one of 7 schools within the boroughs of Woking, Guildford, Surrey Heath, Runnymede and Elmbridge to take part in Centrepiece 2018, a project organised by The Lightbox and The Arts Society Mayford to create original works of art inspired by ‘Redoubt’, a sculpture by Sir Anthony Caro from The Ingram Collection of Modern British Art.
The Year 7 pupils will get to visit the gallery at The Lightbox in Woking, early in the Lent term, where they will be able to see ‘Redoubt’ and other art works on display. They will take part in a workshop in which they will experiment with ideas inspired by the sculpture.
Back at school the children will spend time developing their ideas, culminating in the creation of a final piece of work. The Lightbox and The Arts Society Mayford will select some of the final pieces to exhibit in The Art Fund Prize Gallery at the Lightbox in July/August 2018.
What a fantastic opportunity to showcase what creative artists we have at Amesbury! We are very much looking forward to being part of this exciting project.
