How to Register for Amesbury School

Admissions

Step 1: Enquire and Visit

We encourage all prospective families to visit the school and experience the Amesbury atmosphere first-hand. You can book a private tour or attend one of our Open Mornings throughout the year.

Step 2: Registration Form

To register, please complete our Registration Form and pay the non-refundable £120 registration fee. This reserves your child’s place in the admissions process and enables us to invite them for a Taster Day.

Step 3: Taster Day and Assessment

All children are invited to a Taster Day which gives an opportunity to meet the teachers, make friends and experience what life is like at Amesbury School.

Taster Days are booked for a mutually convenient day during term-time. Your child will join their current year group for a normal school day of lessons and activities. Teachers will observe how your child settles socially and academically. Younger pupils will do some maths and English with a teacher, older pupils will sit an online cognitive ability test. There is nothing to prepare for, nor to worry about. This is intended to allow teachers to see where in the cohort your child would sit best academically, and to ensure that they would be able, not only to access Amesbury’s broad curriculum, but also to enjoy school and thrive here.

Step 4: Offer of a Place

Following the Taster Day, our Admissions Team will contact you within three working days to confirm whether a place can be offered. An Offer of a Place will then be sent via email, accompanied by an e-Contract outlining the school’s Terms and Conditions.

To accept a place, parents both complete the contract and pay a £500 deposit, which is held until your child leaves the school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does registration guarantee a place?

Registration places your child on the Admissions List but does not guarantee a place. Offers are made based on availability, suitability, and the outcome of the Taster Day.

What happens on the Taster Day?

Your child spends a full day with their peer group, taking part in lessons, playtime and lunch. Staff observe how they settle and engage in class activities.

What if my child has additional learning needs?

We welcome children with mild learning needs. Please share any reports, diagnoses or relevant information during registration so our SEND team can make appropriate arrangements.

When will we hear if a place is offered

You will usually hear whether a place is offered within three working days of the Taster Day.

Is the £500 deposit refundable?

The deposit is held on your account and refunded when your child leaves Amesbury School, provided all fees have been settled.

When does the academic year start?

The school year begins in early September and runs on a traditional three-term structure (Michaelmas, Lent, Trinity).

What is the ratio of boys to girls?

Amesbury is a co-educational school in every way and the school is fairly evenly split between boys and girls. In some years there may be slightly more boys, in others more girls, but this varies from year to year.

Where do your leavers go?

We send children to a broad range of schools from single-sex to co-educational, full boarding to day. Over the last five years children have gone on to more than twenty different schools
