Dance at Amesbury
At Amesbury, we simply love to dance! It’s at the heart of our creative spirit and a joyful part of everyday school life. We are proud to offer Dance as a core part of the curriculum from Little Amesbury through to Year 8, providing pupils with a vibrant outlet for self-expression and movement. Through the study of dance, pupils develop their composition, appreciation, and performance skills, blending artistic creativity with physical discipline. Every Amesburian takes part in a Performing Arts event annually, enriching their unique experience at the school. Dance is embraced as a vibrant and integral part of the curriculum, where every pupil actively and enthusiastically participates.
Beyond the curriculum, our Co-Curricular (CCA) programme offers a wide variety of dance classes, including Modern, Hip-Hop, and Contemporary genres. We also provide Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) graded Ballet examinations, supporting pupils in formal dance training. For those with a deep passion for dance, we offer two audition-only performance groups: Amesbury Dance Company (ADC) for Years 3–5, Troupe for Years 6–8. These groups focus on advanced choreography and performance techniques, equipping pupils with the skills and confidence to take on new challenges and progress further in their dance journey. In Years 7 and 8, dancers who display promise are invited onto our Dance Scholarship Preparation Programme, which offers weekly classes focused on technique, choreography, and dance theory. This programme supports pupils who are committed to pursuing dance achievements both at Amesbury and beyond.
Dance Scholarships
In Years 7 & 8 we run a Dance Scholarship Preparation Programme for gifted pupils in dance. Weekly classes are offered with the focus of this programme being to build upon technique, choreographic, knowledge and understanding of dance for pupils who wish to dedicate themselves to committed dance training and achievements whilst at Amesbury and beyond.
Dance Teaching
Our passionate teaching team is committed to delivering high-quality dance education that builds confidence and character through a holistic approach. Pupils are encouraged to explore their creativity while developing technical skills across a range of styles. Each year, Amesbury brings a variety of dance productions to life, vibrantly celebrated by children, staff, and the wider Amesbury community. Our Head of Dance holds a degree in the subject and has received specialist training from the ISTD and Rambert. Additionally, our classical ballet specialist brings professional industry experience and expertise in the genre, enriching the learning experience for all pupils. In Amesbury’s studio, dance is more than movement, it’s a celebration of imagination, empowerment, and community.
