Reception at Amesbury provides a joyful, nurturing and inspiring beginning to school life. Our focus is on helping children develop a love of learning, curiosity, independence and confidence during this crucial early stage.

Children benefit from free-flowing indoor and outdoor classrooms where exploration and discovery happen naturally every day. Forest School, tennis, dance, music, languages and sport are fully embedded into the weekly timetable, creating a rich and balanced school experience. The curriculum is brought to life through hands-on learning, purposeful play and imaginative activities that allow children to build secure foundations across every area.

Our passionate Year R teachers create a vibrant, caring and encouraging environment where every child feels known, supported and celebrated. While academic progress is important, we place equal emphasis on wellbeing, play, friendships and personal growth, ensuring your child begins their educational journey happy, settled and confident.

Joining in Year 3

Year 3 is one of the main entry points to Amesbury, offering children a stimulating, supportive and exciting transition into the Prep School. With a two- or three-form entry and an even mix of boys and girls, pupils join a vibrant, welcoming cohort where friendships form quickly and children feel part of something special from day one.

Our Year 3 teachers nurture the whole child — academically, socially and emotionally. While helping each child reach their potential in the classroom, they also focus on building independence, confidence, wellbeing and resilience. Whether on the sports field, on stage, in the art studio or outdoors, children experience a broad and enriching curriculum designed to ignite passion and spark curiosity.

As part of the admissions process, children are invited for a relaxed taster day including light Maths and English assessments. No preparation is required — the purpose is simply to ensure your child will thrive within the existing cohort and to give them a genuine feel for life at Amesbury. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and reassuring, helping every prospective pupil settle quickly and enjoy their day.

Your child’s next big step starts here

{Our children were happy from the outset. They were nurtured, guided, encouraged, applauded, given the freedom to be themselves and the confidence to grow. They found their feet among their peers and have made rock solid friendships which will last a lifetime. Being happy enabled them to succeed in every aspect of school life and they have benefitted from all the amazing opportunities on offer.

{“I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to each and everyone of you who has been involved in my daughter’s education. She has honestly had THE best time at Amesbury and this is all down to the dedication, supportive and truly fabulous teaching team that has surrounded her. So from us to all of you THANK YOU for enabling her to flourish, to give her the confidence to achieve and for all the time and effort you have given her – we could not have asked for anymore.  She is really going to miss Amesbury a decision we have found very difficult to make but we truly believe she is ready for the next exciting chapter in her life but will look back at Amesbury with only the fondest of memories.”

“My daughter came home beaming, she had an interview with Mr Franklin!  I just wanted to extend my thanks to everyone who has made her feel so welcome at Amesbury after we relocated here from Singapore.

Our whole family is absolutely loving Amesbury, we have seen such a positive change in her, even my mum commented how her confidence has grown in such a short time”
