Welcome from the Headmaster
Our 143rd Michaelmas Term started on Wednesday 4th September. Spirits were high and there was lots of laughter as the staff and pupils returned. There is nothing unusual about that, because there is always a lot of laughter at Amesbury.
At our annual Speech Day in July, 28 boys and girls had left us for 17 different senior schools. The sheer range of school, from day and boarding, near and far, single sex and co-educational, defines Amesbury.
As the only co-educational preparatory school in Hindhead / Haslemere our primary purpose is to identify the right senior school for each of our children. It stands to reason then, that if we really know our pupils, what makes them tick and what their passions & foibles are, they will leave us for a variety of schools, rather than be channelled towards just one or two. For, as I write in our prospectus ‘they are individuals within a system not clones because of it’.
This website ranges widely from Open Days (next one is Thursday 10th October), to how to apply for a place, to the curriculum and activities, to our history and much else. I hope you find it interesting and helpful.
In addition to which you are, of course, more than welcome to visit us, and to meet some of the characters who help to make the school what it is. I hope you do.
Headmaster Nigel Taylor
