Guildford and District Athletics Championships 2018

The Amesbury girls’ Athletics team had a fantastic day at the Guildford and District Athletics Championships held at Guildford Spectrum on Wednesday 23rd May. With the sun shining, the girls were ready to tackle an array of track and field events including Long and High Jump, Ball throw, Shot and Javelin, as well as sprint and middle distance events.
With 13 schools taking part, there was incredibly stiff competition. Nonetheless, we put in some outstanding performances early on. The Year 3 girls finished in Silver position in the 4 x 50m Relay (Libby, Jess, Poppy and Amelia), while the Year 4 team also ran a really good race.
In the 50m sprint, Libby finished in 4th place in the A race, while Amelia finished in a very respectable 5th in the B race. Ysabel also ran well against stiff competition, finishing her 50m race in 5th position.
Special mention must go to Libby who paced herself incredibly in the 600m race, fighting until the very end to win the Gold for the Year 3’s. Elsie was a very busy girl throughout the day, competing in Relays, sprints and field events, with a 4th in the 75m and a 6th in the 150m event.

In the field events, we also saw success across the year groups. Iona R threw fantastically in the Ball Throw, achieving a Gold position. While Maia also put in a great performance in the Shot putt, finishing with a Bronze. In the Year 4 competition, Isobel K threw really calmly, achieving a really impressive Silver from the Year 4 team.

All in all, it was a really fantastic day and such a great experience for all of the girls to be part of such an exciting sporting event. The Year 3 girls should also feel especially proud to have finished third in the Small School’s Event.
Well done to each and every one of you for your performances on the day!
