U9A Cranleigh Tournament – Winners
The U9A team put in an outstanding performance today at the Cranleigh Prep Tournament. The girls were driven and motivated from the outset, displaying fantastic sportsmanship and communication. The first match saw us up against Cranleigh A’s. The girls took a quick lead thanks to super movement in the mid court from Florence, Milly and Tamzi. Emily and Ysabel worked seamlessly together, dodging well in the circle and ‘popping’ under the post. A great 4-1 win gave the girls the confidence to go into the next match with heads held high.
Next up saw Amesbury play Barrow Hills. Isobel Kingsford and Chloe Fitzhardinge should be congratulated here for their continued hardwork. They leapt to make some superb interceptions and turned over possession with such admirable commitment. The girls took an early lead once again and thanks to some more outstanding shooting, we pulled away to give us a 5-0 win.
With only one more match to play, the girls knew that they needed a win in order to come away as the tournament winners. This was our toughest match to date.
Highfield marked incredibly well and stopped us on numerous occasions from entering our attacking third. Nevertheless, we returned this with fantastic dodges into space and our utter determination to win the match started peeking through. The score sat at 1-1 for a long time, with both teams displaying some really outstanding netball. The match finished as a 2-2 draw; very fitting as both teams played their socks off.
As the results were announced, the girls were very hopeful that they would finish as overall winners. Thankfully for us, Cranleigh had drawn two games, meaning that Amesbury were the eventual winners of the tournament.
A huge well done to the whole team; you really deserved this win. A fantastic achievement which really displayed the lovely team which you are becoming.

U9B Cranleigh Tournament – Thursday 2nd November 2017
Vs St Ives 1-3 lost
It was a sunny afternoon at Cranleigh and most definitely a perfect day for a netball tournament. The girls were excited and ready to give it their all. The U9B’s first game was against St Ives and right from the starting whistle they showed the fight that was in them as well as all the energy inside of them. There was excellent movement of the ball from the one side of the court to the other with Claudia making some strong accurate passes and signalling very well. It was a good warm up match and eye opener for the girls. Despite the loss they still played really well and had great sportsmanship.
Vs Cranleigh Gold 1-5 lost
Without any energy lost the U9B’s were ready for their second match. Victoria was very quick at snatching any loose balls and Lily made a number of strong shoulder passes like we practised all week during their games lessons, but after conceding 2 goals early into the game the girls realised they needed to work harder. Halftime came and U9B’s decided it was time to switch on a bit. They started to mark their players, make stronger passes and go for loose balls. We had a few opportunities in the D and managed to score a fantastic goal.
Vs Cranleigh Blue 4-0 won
It was a great start from the girls with a quick centre pass allowing us to score a goal in the first few minutes. The girls were sticking to their players, making it hard for Cranleigh to get the ball and this resulted in Amesbury obtaining most of the possession of the ball. Maisy had an excellent game scoring every one of the the goals and making herself open to receive the ball in the D. There was fantastic communication throughout the entire match and motivation for each and every player.
Vs Highfield 2-1 won
The ball was buzzing from one end to the other in the excitement of the U9’s final match. With tight marking from both teams the score at half time was 1 all. The pressure was on! There was some great work being done between Francesca and Meredith, sticking to their players like glue and making great interceptions. Sophie made a great effort to get free in the D by dodging and creating space. All the hard work paid off and the girls managed to score the only goal in the second half, putting Amesbury in the lead. This was a great game to finish the tournament with and a good win. Well done U9B’s, you all worked extremely hard and never gave, you all should be very proud!
