U9A girls hockey vs PGS
Result, drew 2-2
Player:Chloe
Lady: Isabelle Kingsford.

The U9A girls were excited to take on PGS and were in position ready to go well before the scheduled start!

From the first whistle Amesbury put in 100%, defending and attacking with confidence and assurance. Despite it being a bit scrappy at times, the girls moved the ball from attack to defence well. The forwards showed great commitment to chase several balls that were hit forward and it was from one of these that Amesbury scored, moving 1-0 ahead.

PGS were strong in attack and eventually broke through Amesbury’s dogged defence to score an equaliser. Just before half time, Amesbury scored making the score 2-1 at half time.

In the second half, Amesbury showed greater understanding of space and positioning and started to string a number of excellent passes together. After a while PGS equalised again resulting in a frantic last few minutes with Amesbury pushing for a winner. Two shots went just past the post and the winning goal remained elusive.

The final score was 2-2.

U9 B Hockey v PGS

The format of the B match that was planned on Thursday afternoon was changed on arrival. PGS had 13 girls and we had 6 in the B team, so we combined the two teams together and divided them up into 4 teams of 5. The U9 B team girls were split 3 into each team and their team names were Hockey Hero’s and Sushi Clouds. They played 3 matches of 10 minutes, it was like a mini hockey festival.

All the girls got stuck in to the afternoon of hockey and there was real determination and grit from all. The first match was Hockey Heros v Sushi Clouds, it was great defence from Merry and Victoria and the final score in that match was 1-1. The next match the Hockey Hero’s playing the Red Roaring Lions and the score was 0-0. The last match played was the Hockey Heros v Keep Calm And Love Hockey, where the score was 1-0.

The Sushi Clouds played Keep Calm And Love Hockey where the score was 1-0. Millie scored the winning goal with a great break down the pitch. Their final match was against the Red Roaring Lions where the score was 0-2.

The Hockey Heros played the Red Roaring Lions where the score was 0-0. Their final match was against Keep Calm And Love Hockey where the score was 1-0. Lily, Sophie and Francesca worked hard on the field for their teams, showing good commitment. Although it was a different setup it was a really wonderful afternoon of hockey, where the girls adapted well. Well played girls!

Under 8A Hockey v PGS
Won 3-0

Lady of the match: Libby
A fantastic match today for the U8A team. The girls showed a deeper understanding of spatial awareness today; we saw some lovely passing between players and also Libby demonstrated some amazing ball carrying up the wing. Despite some really unlucky chances in the first half, the score remained a 0-0 draw until the dying seconds when Libby managed to find the back board. The defence didn’t have a great deal to do, nonetheless they were ready with their block tackles and closed down incoming players with confidence.
The second half saw the girls really pushing up into attack. Libby continued to put impressive pressure on PGS, while Jess and Poppy also hassled well to create some lovely opportunities. Anya, Freya and Tilly also worked hard to chase down the ball and block tackled well. Annie was a really steady presence in defence; she tackled amazingly well and also made some great runs into attack. Libby’s hard work was rewarded with 2 more goals in the second half, to give her a hat trick and Amesbury a solid 3-0 win.
Well done girls on a great performance.

U8 B Girls Hockey v PGS (H)
Won: 5-0
Players Player: Ella
Lady of the match: Alice Y

The U8 B hockey match started out very well with Alice Y scoring the first goal within the first few minutes. The Amesbury midfield held the ball in their attacking half with Ella, Amelia C, Hebe, and Emilia P passing the ball around and moving into space. Alice Y played wide and was able to receive a good pass from Amelia C to score a second goal. Elodie made sure her block tackles were strong and flat and kept the PGS players out of her D. Two more goals were scored by Ella and a fifth from Amelia C to secure Amesbury a win at the end of the match.

U8 C Girls Hockey v PGS (H)
Won: 6-2
Players Player: Ottilie
Lady of the match: Honor

The U8 C team were a player short but that did not stop the team from playing a good match. Charlotte was the main defender and her midfield team mates, Abigail, Alice M and Ottilie ran up and down the field to help defend. Honor was unstoppable as the Centre forward she was determined to score goals and pushed through the PGS defence to score 3 goals during the match. Abigail was able to see space on the left side of the field in which to receive passes from Alice M and Ottilie and this allowed Abigail to score 3 goals of her own.
