U8 A Rounders v Edgeborough
Won: 13 1/2 – 7 1/2
Batter of the game: Jessica
Fielder of the game: Libby
Today the U8 girls travelled to Edgeborough for their first rounders game of the term and the result was a terrific win 13 1/2 rounders to 7 1/2! Amesbury started in the fielding position for the first innings and managed to keep Edgeborough’s score low at only 2 1/2 rounders with some great catches and tight fielding. Jess, Poppy, Anya, Amelia and Tilly were all fielding brilliantly, working together and supporting each other, enabling Amesbury to dismiss some of Edgeborough’s players quickly by stumping them out. The girls were on the ball!
Amesbury then had a great first innings batting and together scored 5 1/2 great rounders. Edgeborough managed to score 5 rounders during their second innings but Amesbury then dominated the second innings and scored 8 rounders. During the change over Mrs Dover explained to the girls ‘risking on their last bat’, the girls then went out and put these wise words in to action achieving the results by ‘risking’ on their last bat through some great decisions. Annie and Libby worked brilliantly together as back stop and bowler. In today’s game ‘batter of the game’ went to Jessica today as she demonstrated some great strikes whilst batting and ‘fielder of the game’ went to Libby as her bowling was on fire today. The girls all worked well as a team, learning and gaining a better understanding of the game today.
Great effort today girls, congratulations and well done!

U8B’s cricket vs Edgeborough
Score: Amesbury U8B’s cricket 353-1 vs Edgeborough 307-3
The opening game of the season is always an unpredictable one and true to its form the weather was truly unpredictable. Edgeborough went out to bat played very well off the tee but were restricted to very few runs as Amesbury fielding was on fire, quickly throwing the ball and picking up two early run outs. Their was so really encouraging bowling with some threatening the stumps on a few occasions. Edgeborough steadied the ship and worked hard to score 307-3. With the tea break coming early due to rain a speedy change over was needed and a fast start to chase down a very competitive score. Each pair did well finding gaps and playing shots around the pitch making it hard for Edgeborough to set a field. Running between the wicket improved as the game developed and communication increased helping us sneak out a few extra runs. The boys did very well only losing two wickets, showing very sensible heads and calculated decision. The final score from our innings was 353-2. A superb opening win.

Amesbury U9A cricket vs Edgeborough
Score: Amesbury U9A 119/5 vs Edgeborough 139/2
The rain fell as we literally stepped foot on to the cricket outfield. A 5 minute shower did not prevent the game from taking place and a great game of cricket was played. Edgeborough batted first and a few nerves from our bowlers often meant the odd wide being bowled. Not to be unexpected for the first cricket match of the season though.
We showed throughout the innings that we were enthusiastic and keen in the field and prevented many runs with some great fielding. Any extra (Wide or No ball) the teacher fed the ball to the batsman as a free hit, this is a variation of the T shot we usually play. Amesbury batted and unfortunately we didn’t show our best batting skills that we have shown in lessons.
We lost 5 wickets (-5 for each wicket) and this hindered us getting close to Edgeborough’s score. A positive start to the season still.

U8 B & C Rounders v Edgeborough
Result: U8B draw 5 ½ /5 ½
Result: U8 C won 13/10
Batter of U8 B – Hebe
Fielder of U8 B – Alice M
Batter of U8 C – Charlotte
Fielder of U8 C – Alice Y
This was the first match of Rounders for the U8 teams and there was much excitement and a few butterflies as the girls warmed up for their matches. This group of U8 girls have learned the rules of rounders very quickly and when they fielded they made accurate throws and good decisions about where to throw the ball. The Amesbury teams both played the Edgeborough U8 B team with one innings of batting each.
The girls played well and with enthusiasm it was a great start to the season.
