1st XII Rugby v Pennthorpe Won 15-10

& Lanesborough v Lost 10-20
On a wet, windy afternoon, which got progressively colder on Fyfield, we battled bravely to win one game and lose to a more powerful team in the other. There were some fine individual performances; in other cases, the weather definitely got into their bones and handling became difficult on a muddy paddock which stood up well to 48 hours of lousy weather.

Some good tries were scored none better than the clever angle which was run to create the final try of an enjoyable, if rather fractured season.

My thanks to Mr Alesbrook and the other coaches, the referees, and all the boys and their loyal, season-ticket-holding parents who certainly earned their cuppas today!

3rd IX Rugby vs Lanesborough

Score: 14 – 6

With the rain lashing down and the wind howling across the pitches, the Amesbury 3rd IX took to the field to take on Lanesborough.

Lanesborough had some big players but that did not deter the Amesbury team who, with snorkels fitted, got off to a flying start! A few early trys put Amesbury into a strong position and they held the lead into half time.

The second half saw Lanesborough make a great attempt at a comeback and they managed to score several good trys. However, Amesbury decided there was no way they would let Lanesborough take a victory and started scoring try after try.

The final score of 14-6 was an exceptional result and a great way to end the rugby season.

Amesbury 2nd Girls Hockey v Bohunt
Won: 1-0
Players Player: Dora
Lady of the match: Dora

The first match of the season for the Amesbury 2nd Hockey team was played at Bohunt in very wet and windy conditions. The weather did not dampen the girls’ enthusiasm and Amesbury dominated the match from the start. Dora proved to be very strong in the midfield, distributing the ball to Jenny, Imogen, Charlie and Isabelle M who kept up the relentless attack against Bohunt. This determined attack led to a goal scored by Imogen close to the end of the first half.

The second half saw Amesbury having to defend their goal but Olivia, Lottie, Betty and Maddy held strong and Annabelle made three good saves. Amesbury also defended five short corners and were rewarded with a win yesterday.

Amesbury 2nd XII (rugby) vs Lanesborough

Amesbury 8, Lanesborough 3

The 2nd XII ended the season with a superb performance against Lanesborough. Rain and driving wind meant this was never going to be a free flowing match. The boys adapted brilliantly to the conditions. With ball in hand they ran hard and straight. In defence they constantly pressurised the opposition. The boys ran in 8 tries. Max used his pace and strength to run in numerous tries. Samuel was simply outstanding, aggressive in the loose and devastating in the tackle. Well done to all the boys.
