The girls were looking forward to playing hockey against Westbourne House in beautiful weather on a good grassy surface. It took them a while to get to grips with the speed of play and the need to control the ball more and make short passes rather than attempt big long hits. Camilla made several very good saves with positive kicks to our defence, Flora and Lucy, who alternated throughout the game, managing to clear the ball away. A lot of play centred around midfield with the girls bunching together, but as the game progressed they started to remember their initial positions and push the ball out wide.

Some good displays of tackling from Flora, Milly and Emily with a forward push from Clara, Anna and Alice who often won possession but movement into our D was intercepted by a strong Westbourne defence. Isabella and Mia came on regularly as substitutes in mid field.

The final score belies the fact that it was an evenly fought match with play going from end to end.
Louise Williams, Head of Girls’ Games
