With the game on the fringes of rain shower it was touch and go whether or not we could play. Thankfully we did. Amesbury went out to bat with pairs only having two overs between them so the boys needed to guard their wicket carefully. The tone was set by the opening pairs punishing any wide balls. Ollie and Casper went out with some venom hitting a quick 17. Cianan showed test match patience with a strong guard. The boys closed on 263-1 which was a superb achievement and the composure of the boys to only lose one wicket was excellent. When in the field all watching were amazed with the quality of fielding. Rarely have so many direct hit run attempts been hit. The boys backed up consistently and forced Highfield to run some risky ones which on occasion was fruitful. With the ball they bowled a good line and length with limited extras. Stand out bowling figures have to be Archie with a wicket maiden. Highfield finished on 244-3. A great win and one that all can take credit for. Very impressed and arguably the best U9’s fielding performance ever seen at Amesbury.
