Year 1 set off with much excitement to Beaulieu Motor Museum on Friday 24 January. The trip seemed to ‘take forever’ according to some of the children!

We arrived at Beaulieu in good time and we were met by our fabulous tour guides. They took us through the motor museum explaining all about Formula One race cars and how the first cars had to have a person walking in front of them waving a red flag of warning as they were deemed so dangerous! The children were incredibly well behaved and they loved finding out about all the different cars including seeing the ‘actual, real-life’ Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! The children asked some amazing questions and the staff at the museum were very impressed with their knowledge and enthusiasm about all things transport.

We were lucky enough to dress up in costumes to demonstrate how cold it was to travel in open cars and how to protect your eyes. They certainly found it very entertaining and they all particularly enjoyed honking the different car horns! The large one being a particular favourite!!

Obviously, this being Year 1, lunch was the highlight of the day of course!

The remainder of the afternoon was spent on the mono-rail – “This is the best thing I have ever been on, EVER!”, and taking a fun ride in an old Austin 7, nicknamed ‘Gumdrop’, especially going around the roundabout. The children absolutely loved it and so did the grown-ups. The World of Top Gear and cars from films kept everyone entertained and we certainly could have spent much longer exploring everything that Beaulieu had to offer.

A brilliant time was had by all!
